Department of Water Resources “Big Notch”
yolo county, cA

Picture
MVE is providing construction staking and surveying services for the “Big Notch”, a 30,000-acre floodplain habitat restoration and fish passage project located in the Fremont Weir State Wildlife Area in Yolo County. When the project is completed in late 2023, the gated passage, or notch, will be opened when the Sacramento River is high enough to flow into the Yolo Bypass floodplain, creating a food-rich habitat for juvenile salmon, improving their chances of survival as they travel to the Pacific Ocean. The passage will also make migration easier for adult salmon and sturgeon, crucial to the recovery of these endangered species. MVE will be performing site control, staking construction limits, and performing pre-construction and post-quantity surveys at the intake and transport channels, staging areas, and spoil site. More updates on this project to come.
