Clarke Avenue – Hwy 101 Bicycle & Pedestrian Overcrossing

Client:

MCM Construction

The Clarke Avenue / Hwy 101 Bicycle & Pedestrian Overcrossing in East Palo Alto created a new Class I shared-use connection across eight lanes of U.S. 101, linking the city’s north and south sides for pedestrians and bicyclists. The approximately $13 million project improved access to schools, shopping, parks, employment centers, and community services while providing a safer alternative to crossing the busy freeway at street level. MVE supported construction of the overcrossing with construction surveying and staking, including layout for the bridge abutments, bents, ramp structures, main freeway box girder, utilities, storm drainage, traffic signals, and roadway improvements. The project was completed in July 2019, reconnecting areas of East Palo Alto that had been separated by the freeway for more than 60 years.
